The partnership between PIUSI and the Zero C team: promoting inventiveness and technology in schools
Corporate - 08/02/2024

PIUSI supports the students of the ITIS Leonardo da Vinci in Carpi - Italy who make up the Zero C team - a group of young people with a passion for engines and clean energy who, every year, design and build an electric-powered prototype that participates in the annual Shell Eco-marathon Europe competition.

The Shell Eco-marathon: a challenge for sustainable mobility

The Shell Eco-marathon is an international competition that tests the creativity and ingenuity of high school and university students in the field of sustainable mobility. The aim is to design and build vehicles that can travel the greatest possible distance using the least energy. Students compete in different categories, such as electric, hydrogen or combustion-powered vehicles. This competition aims to promote innovation and the adoption of environmentally sustainable technologies, encouraging students to think creatively to find solutions that reduce the environmental impact.

The Zero C team: excellence and innovation at the Leonardo da Vinci institute in Carpi

The Zero C team is made up of 25 students from the mechanics, electronics and computer science course at the Leonardo da Vinci industrial technical institute in Carpi (MO). In 2019, this group of students won first place in the category of electric battery-powered prototypes, with the 'Escorpio Evo 17' vehicle, named after an invention by Leonardo da Vinci: a boat for use in war, characterised by a metal rostrum with which to ram enemy ships.

In front of 25,000 spectators, Team Zero C took to the track this year at the Paul Armagnac circuit in Nogaro, France (the designated destination for the Europe and Africa 2023 edition) with the 'Escorpio Evo 23' prototype in the Battery-electric category, coming fifth out of almost 170 participating teams from almost 30 European countries. A satisfactory result, but one that still left some questions open about the prototype's performance. For 2024, the aim is therefore to redesign some of the vehicle's components and bring it up to its maximum capacity.

The partnership between PIUSI and the Zero C team: promoting inventiveness and technology in schools

The partnership between PIUSI and the Zero C team demonstrates the importance of fostering collaboration between companies and academic institutions with regard to knowledge of electromechanics and technological innovation in general. In particular, PIUSI is committed to supporting the design activities by making its own know-how available. The synergy between school and company not only enhances the students’ skills and inventiveness, but also nurtures the importance of teamwork, today a fundamental key to development for tomorrow's professionals.

Our pumps, flow meters, dispensing instruments and accessories are used all over the world in a wide range of applications.
