PIUSI enters the INDUSTRY 4.0 era
“The company has strongly sustained the project”, explains Carlo Somaini – PIUSI Plant Manager – “and today we can count on 7 new production areas perfectly integrated in the corporate processing cycle that allow us a greater flexibility, speed and quality of the manufacturing process; thus a greater product competitiveness”.
The project, called OKUMA 4.0, is focused on the PIUSI 3 area; the one dedicated to robotic mechanical processes. Here, thanks to the synergic co-operation of the Production Development, Project, Quality, Supply Chain and Purchasing Departments, these new production areas have been installed – to implement and partially substitute the previous ones – fully dedicated to the removal of metallic shaving during the internal production process.
The machineries are fully automated; therefore the continuous presence of an operator isn’t required. Connected remotely with the supplier for a constant assistance, these machineries are fully integrated with the company ERP allowing a more synergic and well-timed manufacturing scheduling besides perfectly matching the waste and timing containment objectives accordingly to the Lean Production Program.
Activation followed to a very strict internal audit process on product quality: all machines have been tested on the processing of more than 200 product codes to verify and improve their production quality according to PIUSI standards. At the same time, the Company carried out 160 hours of staff training for the activation, management and maintenance of the systems.
The 7 areas have been conceived and installed pursuing an improvement of all safety aspects, as well as environmental and acoustic impact both during installation and use.
