According to this vision, since 2001 PIUSI has set up a massive automatic warehouse in partnership with the market leader Jungheinrich (world number three and number two in Europe in the material handling segment): a huge structure that allows the Company to move in and out components for production, Made To Stock products, a wide range of materials for the manufacturing process and many other items.
If you look at the Jungheinrich warehouse from the safety platform positioned on the side, it looks like a huge hive. Not only for the main colour - yellow. Inside you can find 6500 cells well organized and tidy: the central robotic arm moves quickly backwards and forwards, up and down, to pick and maneuver pallets and containers. At its full speed; this automatic warehouse - everybody in PIUSI friendly refers to it as Jungheinrich from its manufacturer - can move daily more than 700 times/16 hours: 700 deposits and 700 picking. In charge of the system 4 operators who, together, move items in and out: 2 operators for deposit and 2 operators for picking operations.
So, why it is so strategic for PIUSI to have such automatic warehouse?
If we look at the fluid handling market the answer is simple: to enhance the performances in terms of quickest and more efficient deliveries and to enhance productivity for shorter lead times. Automation moves thing faster and with less mistakes (errors comes only from mistaken deposits) compared to “manual labour” supporting production efficiently almost in real time. Thanks to a scheduled picking list aimed to a real optimization of orders fulfillment.This is translated on production with a more organized process that means more efficient response to customers’ requirements.
