Ferragosto celebrates several different things in Italy. Ferragosto is a Roman Catholic holiday recognized in Italy that celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary's body and soul into heaven after she died.

Ferragosto dates back to the Roman Empire, specifically the Roman Emperor Augustus (coming from Latin, Feriae Augusti - the festivals of Augustus). During this celebration Emperor Augustus would organize horse races. To this day the Palio of Sienna is a tradition that still continues in Italy. Ferragosto also marks the "semi-official" beginning to the summer holiday season in Italy. So, what does this mean for Piusi??

In Italy, many Italians take holiday to the beaches, mountains, and elsewhere. Because of the holiday season our mother company Piusi S.p.A in Mantua Italy will be closed. However, please note that Piusi USA located in Fort Lauderdale, FL servicing North America will still remain open during this time.
