Product codes, mainly for large warehouses or wholesalers, is a fundamentally strategic element for the proper function of the business, both on a local and – above all– global level.
Each Company uses its own coding. PIUSI, for example, identifies each product in its range with a unique part number “F00….” easily identifiable on each product sold (click here to browse this function online).
A complex warehouse with multiple suppliers will have several different coding systems. Thus, in the early Seventies, universal coding systems were born.
In order to achieve better internal performance, as well as simplification for partners/customers, PIUSI has chosen to implement the EAN coding (European Articles Numbering) for its products. The EAN coding – also known as bar code – is a 13-digit code:
- the first 7 digits identify the manufacturer;
- the second 5 digits identify products and
- the last one is a controlling code.
Each product has its own EAN code.
Starting from late 2019, all PIUSI FERT product codes have, on the corner label of their packaging, their related EAN coding both as a bar code as well as the complete 13-digit number. Moreover, the same code is also integrated in all sales packing lists. In this way, when the customer receives a PIUSI product, they can register it in their warehouse and manage it automatically, unique worldwide for all Company branches.
As for trade, the simplification is clear: thanks to an optical reader the customer immediately identifies the product and automatically registers its entry. The central PC for the warehouse management updates the inventory in real time, indicating stock or alerting low inventory (in case of sale). Manual, repetitive and error-prone operations are thus avoided.
An additional coding that PIUSI has chosen to add to its products in order to guarantee an increasingly productive co-operation with its partners.
